Blog Post #7

By using twitter as an educational tool, I never realized how informational it can be. There are so many different accounts making it easier to connect with big educational companies, educational professionals and even allows you to see what things are going on in FSU's College of Education that we may not have seen or heard about if it hadn't been for twitter. Personally I don't like to read really long articles, by having a 140 character limit I can get the summary of an article/report and then decide if I want to read the whole article that is attached. The biggest benefit is definitely  the accessibility to big company's ideas, products, services, etc. that we may not have heard of without twitter or other social media, allowing for educators to employ these new ideologies in the classroom. The only issue I have with twitter is sometimes the 140 character limit isn't enough, although it is great to summarize sometimes you cant get enough in with the link or hashtags taking up so much characters. I think this can be improved by not including links or a certain amount of hashtags as used characters.

Through creating a website I have learned how to organize information in ways that are appealing but also easy to access what is important. I like how weebly (the service we are using to create our sites) allows you to add in contact, RSVP, and other forms that can be submitted right from the page, so parents only have to visit one site to see a calendar, events, all all other important information as well as contact the teacher which makes everything much easier. I have not finished yet but I like how simple it is to add elements to your page like pictures, videos, etc. so parents can also see all the fun projects, experiments, and activities their kids are doing at school. I like how clean and professional the websites look, but I wish there was at tool that you could put a calendar in and to be able to customize the different tab labels. My website is linked below and should be finished soon!

Diigo is a great tool all educators can use to share resources, articles, lessons, etc. I really like the way it categorizes information into sections so you can easily access what you are looking for without having to scrolling through everything that has been saved. Diigo has taught me how to not only save a website, but annotate in a way that pulls out the important information and leaves good notes so it is most useful for whoever sees/ uses the resource in the future. Personally since I want to teach early elementary school, my students probably wont get much use out of Diigo, but as educators on a team it is a great way to share resources that can be used across multiple subject areas. For example if the main area of focus for the year is learning about space, Diigo is a great tool that teachers all teaching the same grade can easily all share articles, lesson plans, activities, etc. under a single tab to reference as they try to incorporate space into their specific class' curriculum.
